Our Story
Kasper Fostering was established in 1997 by founding director Mac Ornsby. Mac’s desire to create a fostering agency came from personal and professional insight and experiences. Working with adolescents in the 1990s, Mac came across many homeless teenagers who had left care at 16, as well as younger children who had experienced difficult and traumatic home lives. Finding this deeply upsetting, Mac decided to do something about it and set up Kasper Fostering.
With a battered old Citroen 2CV, Mac travelled across the local area recruiting and supporting foster carers, but that was not all. Mac wanted Kasper Fostering to be something different, something that stood apart from other agencies. For Mac, it was about creating a strong sense of family, where carers, children and staff felt genuinely supported and part of a close-knit community. At the heart of this was a belief that relationships matter, that when carers and children are valued, listened to and supported, they are able to thrive.
That ethos, culture and sense of community remain at the core of Kasper today, and continue to be what our carers tell us they value most about being part of our fostering family.
Our Team
Our Values
Our core values at Kasper Fostering are the foundation of our work. They drive our commitment to championing our carers, nurturing every child, and building a welcoming community where everyone has a place to belong.
Child-Centred
Every decision we make is driven by what is best for the child. We are deeply committed to providing safe, nurturing homes where children who have experienced trauma can find stability, heal, and be supported to reach their full potential.
Carer Focused
We know that to give a child the best care, you need the best support. That’s why we invest in your wellbeing, offering outstanding training, generous allowances, and 24/7 guidance so you always feel valued and equipped for the journey.
Relationship‑led
We aren’t a faceless corporate agency; we are a family. By intentionally keeping our caseloads small, our social workers take the time to build genuine, lasting connections with you, your family, and the children you care for.
Honest, approachable, supportive
We believe in open, transparent communication without the complicated jargon. Whether you have a quick question or just need a friendly ear after a challenging day, our team is always a phone call away, ready to listen.
Not for Profit Care
Our status as an independent, not-for-profit fostering agency is important to us. With no shareholders, any surplus is reinvested directly into supporting our children and foster carers. Being independent means we are able to make our own decisions, remain true to our values, and focus on what matters most, providing the best possible outcomes for children and families. Our size and ethos enable us to offer a personal approach, where foster carers are known, heard and supported as individuals, and are genuinely part of the Kasper Fostering family.
Our Ethos
Kasper prides itself on the support for carers and children and having a family friendly feel. At Kasper we get to know all our carers and children, you will feel part of a family and supported by an experienced team who have been with Kasper for many years.
