Fostering and becoming a foster carer means you are providing a safe, stable and nurturing home environment for children and young people who are unable to live with their birth families. Fostering is different to adoption, it can sometimes be a short term arrangement that can last for a few weeks to several months, as well as longer term, for example up until the age of 18 and beyond. But as a foster carer you will be supported by an agency like Kasper Fostering, and you will also be working with professionals from Local Authorities who make the decision to bring a child into care.

Fostering can be incredibly rewarding, but also demanding, some liken it to being on a rollercoaster! There are ups and downs which is why it is important that you feel supported when caring for children who have experienced trauma, and this is something that Kasper prides itself on.

The fact you are reading this means that you have taken the time to think about fostering, its not a flash in the pan decision, it is a life changing one and it is important that you have all the answers to all the questions you will have before deciding that it is right for you.

Here’s what Dwayne, a former foster child, had to say about growing up with foster parents through Kasper Fostering:

“My time would have been extremely different if I had not met my current foster carers. They have really shaped me into the person that I am today. And we’re not foster children to them, we’re just their kids.”
